Associate Scientist, Analytical

Position Description

This is an entry-role position that will assist in and/or perform routine testing in support of Manufacturing, R&D, and Client projects.  The candidate will be responsible for performing testing and analysis in a timely manner.  Candidate must be able to adjust work as priorities can shift quickly as client needs change.  Good communication and time management skills are critical to meeting company expectations and goals. The associate scientist is expected to work independently with guidance from their supervisor and in a group setting in their respective department and larger team. This includes working closely with other scientists and Directors to communicate laboratory activities and updates on projects. 

 

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Essential functions of this position will be preparing samples for testing and performing the following analytical testing including but not limited to: UV-Vis, HPLC, GC-FID, Karl Fischer Analysis.

  • Eagar to learn new techniques and perform R&D type analysis for new formulation of proteins.

  • Must be very team oriented and willing to communicate openly and work with the team in various capacities.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills required.  Must be able to evaluate the results of experiments and determine what those results mean based on current Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.

  • The ability to convey information to others in a clear and understandable manner will be critical.

  • Must be flexible and willing to work in an environment where priorities can change week to week.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) highly recommended.

  • Analyzes information for technical correctness and accuracy.

  • Research Methods: Requires solid knowledge of a variety of experimental techniques.

  • Analytical skills: Critical thinking is essential to understand, interpret, integrate, and communicate various research and development results.

  • Problem Solving Skills: Ability to address and adapt to problems quickly.

  • Computer and Technical Skills: Embrace and adapt to technology required to fulfill responsibilities of this position, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Project Management software (e.g., Smartsheet).

  • Organizational skills: Ability to manage personal timelines and prioritize tasks to ensure projects are meeting goals set for clients and internal development.

  • Written and verbal communication skills: Ability to convey information to others in a clear and understandable manner. Role requires frequent communication with scientists, engineers, and managers to explain their research and development processes. Must also communicate with clients to explain the results of research and development studies.

  • Time Management: Develop, organize, plan and have time management abilities to utilize, solve problems creatively, manage/schedule multiple priorities, and adhere to deadlines. 

Requirements

Minimum Required Education and/or Experience

  • BS in relevant physical/biologic scientific field (e.g, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, etc).  Industry experience preferred but not required.

  • Basic understanding of laboratory techniques, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and strong communication skills.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None.

Travel:  Occasional local business travel required.

Physical Demands:

  • This job primarily operates in both a professional office setting and a research laboratory setting.

  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners.

  • Must be able to bend, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
